what all needs to be done to make this a reliable trustworthy motor? it has good power, i havent checked compression but i would say it cant be bad. so am i looking at new rings bearings and timing chain for the most part?has anyone done this there self. i wont pay a machine shop cus i dont trust them and im a above average backyard mechanic.

Save up for a performance build, that way you only do it once.

agreed save up for your h/c/i that way you only have to do it once. Honing the cylinders isnt hard at all, But I dont trust myself to bore them. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

get a shop to bore, hone, and clean it, put new cam bearings in, and all that. then get u an stroker kit, h/c/i and out her together and then call it a day.

I thought the same , only to see Ford Part Numbers on the bearings, walls with original hone marks etc. and nothing needed replaced. [:'(]

only if you are doing a 347 you will need to notch. a 331 does not need to be notched.

yeah i use a quart after a month and thats usually over 1000miles, but it doesnt smoke or anything, i just want my motor to last a long time. a lil more power might be nice but wouldnt it not be very smart to mod a 225k motor?
also is a smog pump delete worth while?
my friend says he has a map sensor of a ford lightening, is it worth anything? and what the hell is a 3bar map sensor?

this was my thought process too. don't waste your time, I just rebuilt mine last winter because of a broken oil ring. after all the gaskets, bearings, rings, and misc. parts & supplies,I was close to $1000 from start to finish. i prob only spent $600 on needed things but then the little stuff started adding up to get her finished. And these amounts are with owning all the necessary tools already. If it's running strong and not burning a quart of oil every hundred miles then don't mess with it. Spend your money on upgrades. Rebuilding back to stock is a waste.
