manual steering rack
so just a couple of questions.....is it worth it?
how exactly does it work?
does it drive like it does now, minus PS pump, or is it harder to drive?
any input would be great, harder to maintain whats required to put one in? is this one any good? http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_50/
just let me know

RE: manual steering rack
A manual rack takes away ALL power assist (steering that is), so your stang is counting on you to turn the wheel. So, yes, it will be harder to turn.
No steering pump may free few hp (if that) as there is one less accessory for the engine to worry about. youll also remove some weight from the front end.
Take out the power rack and all the hoses and pump, get a new shorter belt and put the maual rack in and you should be good to go.

RE: manual steering rack
is it worth it? my current ps pump is junk, the line bled all over the place, i hate the whine it makes and i dont think it really working right now anyways, replaced lines, filled pump yet its still a little tougher to steer than it was when i bought it.....so i figured this would be a good time iffffff its worth it.
also installation...what are we talkin about here? lots of time? should i wait till i get my tubular k member kit? what are your opinions?

RE: manual steering rack
It's not too bad.
Cost about $500 in parts plus alignment.
It's harder to steer in parking lots, but not noticable while cruising.
For the cost if you're not dropping it for turbo install or drag setup
I would just replace P/S pump, will be cheaper and more DD friendly on you.

RE: manual steering rack
its not a DD, more of a kill your average street car....car. lol. basically i wanna kill vette's, vipers, anything that i might see on the road most of the time even your rare lambo ferrari. i want a turbo set-up, actually twin turbo but i firgure that would blow my engine apart fairly quickly, way before i would get to my 351-w in a couple of years. is it something i would eventually end up getting, manual steering rack that is?
