Timing Question for H/C/I
So I think i'm ready to pull my timing chain and cam but i'm not sure if my timing is right.
The distributer is supposed to be removed and then set to firing position one after i remove and install the new cam? Also my timing is set to 0 degrees and piston #1 is all the way up. Am I ready to remove the timing chain/cam...
I may take some pictures, just help me out, this step is quite important!

RE: Timing Question for H/C/I
Wait I think I get your question,
here what you need to do, put cyl#1 at TDC on the compression stroke. Do your cam swap. Line up the timing marks on the gears. when reinstalling your disty set it so it fires on the no.1 cylinder. It should fire right up. If it backfires out the intake the disty is 180* off.

The electric connection on the distributer, isit supposed to point a certain way???

Pull the #1 plug.
Turn theengine over (by hand) until you feel the air/ compressionescaping.
To make sure your at TDC put a pencil in the #1 plug hole and watch it move to it's highest point as the piston comes to the top.
Follow your #1 plug wire back to the distributor and then open the cap and you should see that the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire.
Take a picor do somethingso you'll have a reference so that when you re-install the distributor it will be in that same location, you can now pull the distibutorknowing your on the #1 plug and at TDC.
As P Zero stated make sure you line up the marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft sprocket when you install the new cam.

RE: Timing Question for H/C/I
leave the heads off, bring cyl 1 to TDC.. (piston at the top of the cylinder bore)
make sure the spot on the crank gear is at the top. install the cam gear (with the chain off)
align the dots. once they are lined up you can remove the cam and crank gear, line up the gears in the chain. slide them on and tighten everything up. rotate the engine over twice and verify the alignment
