Whether they're old are not I've seen some people make good numbers with them.

mrbigshot, no company is perfect - and when dealing with cams (especially flat tappets) its very hard to figure out who is to blame, because most times its the customer. crane is one of the best companies out there, and as stated earlier they make/have made cams for ford, as well as rocker arms.

most frpp cams are designed with low lift figures so they can be used with stock pistons, heads etc.
Lift figures are not a problem for piston to valve concerns, you could have a cam with .600" lift and still be able to use the stock pistons......or one with .470" lift and have the valves hit the piston if not notched.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending FRPP cams, even though I've used one for yrs and have installed my fare share of alphabet cams. It's the "buy it because it's newer tech" only approach, w/out looking into the specifics of a combo that I don't buy (NPI). The last alphabets I installed were all over the place in terms of valve events, like having 8 different cams in 1, so quality is an issue IMHO.

BTW.....did you know that the Stg 1 and 2 cams are based on Crane Cams grind numbers?.....

FRPP cams are not bad, and I don't think anyone is arguing that. However, with any OEM manufacturer, they always lean towards the "middle" they normally are not going to take you near as far as a full aftermarket MFG. There is a lot of R and D that goes into cam manufacturing and the companies that are dedicated to valve trains spend a lot more time experimenting than a broad based OEM. Bottom line if you want "plug and play" and relative reliability FRPP would be a good choice, they are just not going to have the broad range to choose from, and also don't offer the custom grind end, which in my experience has always been the way to go. Me I am a Crower fan, that is just a personal preference.
