first oil change
we took apart the filter after the first oil change at 100 miles and i saw a good amount of material. there was alot of the copper color which is from the bearings. we put a magnet to it and a bunch stuck to it. heres a pic of all that came out of it. is this alarming?

looks a bit excessive to me. i've never seen that much material during a breakin.

i remember you saying u had 250miles on it and you were WOT

If it sticks to a magnet it ain't copper. Ferrous materials are magnetic, iron/steel etc. That does look a bit excessive though, yeah. Did you clean the coatings off the bearings when it was assembled? Also you're gonna get iron coming off the rings and cylinder wall as the rings break in though. And have you done a compression test on it? Or a leakdown test?

RE: first oil change
Info ALL should know: the oil of today is not your fathers oil, its far inferior! You may as well use water in your crank case. When breaking in a new motor, here's what to do, Use only Rotella oil by shell, it has the zinc and other properties in it that is a must for proper break-in, alll others don't! Then change the oil at between 500 and 1,000 miles, and use Mobil 1 pure synthetic.Run it from then on, changing every 5,000 or so.Yours looks like way too much metal, do you have roller rockers? If so check the lash, if you have to re-adjust them, your cam is probably shot already. Thats the best way to tell if something is amiss, the cam lobes will wear before anything else usually, good luck and hope all turns out OK.

RE: first oil change
this is so funny.....what kind of rings has alot to due with break in,when to use syth. oils etc....
as for that engine who ever built it should be shot....looks like there is even pieces from valve guides in it as well... what kind of oil pressure is this engine holding????? engine debris looks like the engine wasn't pre-lube enough and was the engine hard to start?
