redneck racer

i recently bought a 1983 5.0 and it wasnt complete, had a few minor things wrong, one being the guages dont work. the speedo and tach both work but none of the other 4 do. Ive taken the whole thing off and looked but i know nothing about electrical. There seems to be a greenish computer like pad on the back and 2 small wire plugins. What could be the probelm as far as none of them working. Could it be that green computer like pad?

you mean the ciruit board??? you'll needa wiring diagram to trace the power and ground feeds to the gauges bolted to the back of it is a instrument cluster voltage regulator that commonly fails on these the gauges start to read errattically and sometimes fail all together

also check the engine bay wiring, they could be frayed, dryrotted or cut.

I know that the wiring for the temp and oil psi gauge is shot to hell, so once the V8 is in, I'll have to rewire.

my gas gauge works fine, but my battery is dead (stays right in the middle.... currently the engine is all disconnected and the wires are off, but the gauge still reads normal...so I guess I'm ok[&:])
