Default Transmission selection...

I am looking at building a 331 stroker with a Kenne Bell supercharger on top, I estimate with 8-9 lbs of boost it will be around 375-400HP at the crank... now the problem is getting all that horsepower from the crank to the ground. My car has had almost all of the chassis mods done needed for that amount of power (its a convertible) so the weak link now lies in the T-5 transmission it currently has. What would be a good transmission to run behind an engine of this power? I want to keep a 5 speed in it and would prefer not to have to mess with the driveshaft/clutch/bellhousing issues that would come up with a different transmission. Any help is much appreciated! Also, are Aluminum Flywheels a worthwhile investment? Does it improve the RWHP or just allow the entire rotating assembly to rev quicker?

First, if that 331 has decent heads, it's going to make more than 400hp at the crank with a KB at 8-9psi. A lot more. As far as the aluminum flywheel, it just lets you rev quicker(which can make a huge difference in your acceleration) but may be hard to drive on the street, not enough rotating mass and when you leave a stop light the engine won't want to keep spinning and will try to stall, so it will take a different driving style. As far as a Tranny, a Tremec TKO 500 or 600 would be good. I'd get the 600 myself because I like the gear ratios a bit better, and it has a tighter 5th, so it's useful if you want to go faster rather than just have better mileage. As far as bellhousing and driveline etc, I couldn't tell you for your car, try a google. If you get the 600 you'll need a different clutch though since it has a higher spline count on the input shaft

Thanks for the help guys... I definitely want to keep it streetable and the astro performance T-5 gear kit looks very appealing... cheaper than a TKO500/600 swap for sure!
