Default Question, 83 'stang

K, Yes, I'm new here, but whatever.

I drive an 83 'stang glx, (5.0 obviously). I keep it running in great condition, etc. Just got flowmasters put on it, next, im getting some bolt on (bbk?) headers, but everywhere i've looked, most sites stop at 86 or so. also, looking for a cold air to install, but most websites stop at 86. there isn't anywhere aruond here that i could find that specializes in older cars.I was wondering if anyone knew from experience that if parts from an 86 would fit on my 83? I should be able to answer most questions asked. I'm not too knowledgable, but I know alot about my ride. Thankz in advance for any help

I would just convert to the 86-93 exhaust setup

I would think that the headers would fit, but I'm not entirely sure. Is your car carbureted? I remember the put throttle body fuel injection as an option in the early 80s foxes but I don't remember which year that started. None of the 86+ cold air kits will work becuase 86+ cars have the sideways intake manifold.

k, yeah its carb'd. but it's a 5 speed. so i don't have to worry abuot fuel inject. i'm still not real sure what to do. i was thinking the headers would work anyways, but many other parts, nothing goes that far back, and if it does, it always skips that year. like mmff goes back to the late 60's, but nothing for 83's. it's so hard finding parts for my car.

what do you need? for a full exhaust get an 86-93 dual hump crossmember, then you can use ANY 86-93 exhaust

my very first stang was a 83 gt with t-tops,red paint with the black stripe on rocker panel and black edged stock cal induction hood with a 4v h.o. 5.0 liter motor which was throtle body injected but not efi. which ment the fuel was injected via a throttle body mounted in the top of the carb. which is prolly what you have. im not sure about the headers but as far as cold air intake you can make your own. where the breather cover sits on the carb there is a hose or air tube if ya wanna call it coming off of the side. just run some aluminium dryer vent hose from there to any place under the front where it can receive cool air. it will also serve as a ram air in some sense. ive done this with alot of the early 80s mustangs that drag race and have even done one where we cut a hole on the other side from the factory one on the breather and made a twin ram air by running the two hoses to the bottom edge of the bumper.

K, when i got my flowmasters put on, i did get new exhaust from manifolds back, that's why i'm planning on getting headers too. i have 2' from the manifolds to the cat's, then 2 1/2' from the cat back. so the full exhaust system is barely 2-3 months old now. I was just wondering if any bbk bolt on headers for 86 stang would work?

also, what should i do for better intake now, not sure what i can do now that my 86+ cold air idea has been shot down.

Since your car is carbed a cold air kit won't work that's for fuel injected cars. as for parts if emmissions isn't a problem there are tons of bolt on parts for your car.....cam, heads, intakes if it has a serpentine belt set up then underdrive pullies gears exhaust!!! you name it you can get it.

hmm yeah.. but i have to wait a few years, for no emissions.. because i believe in tennesssee once a car becomes antique (25 years for fords?) then anything can be done do them because they don't have to pass emissions (i think)

but yeah, i'm hoping to take this car to the next level. my friend and I are both looking at stuff to do with it. thx for the help guys!!!
