Default what is this thing?

what is this little bearing thing in the back of my 5.0 motor, the tourqe converter does not have the same fitting, does this mean my 5.0 was from a manual car and how do I remove this bugger?

I pointed to it with the back of a screwdriver... no, I didnt try to pry it out... you never pry anything out, I know that

You may want to find out if tehre is supposed to be a cover on that before you go popping anything out. It's a pilot bearing. It may have been left in there because there's supposed to be a cap or something with an Auto. I'd find out first from a tranny shop.

pilot bearing for input shaft on tranny they make a special little slap hammer that has a special end on it with jaws that spread out. I have one and it works well. if you have an auto tranny you can remove it still there is no cap on it or needed for automatics it's a blind hole no opening to inside the engine

you dont need a bearing puller. if you have one great otherwise what you do it. back that hole full of grease. now take the input shaft in the hole if you have the input shaft for it or get a dowl of equal size, not so it snug on the bearing but you want it to fit the hole. then hit the dowl with a hammer, repack with grease and hit again. repeat until bearing pops out. trust me this works great!

why would you want to do that and risk damage? try my technique with the dowel, it takes all of 5 minutes and like 2 dollars for a dowel rod.
