Default Starter grinding

Hello,
I have a 92 5.0. After starting the vehicle, the starter remains engaged for approximately 1-2 seconds (grinding noise). I have replaced the starter, iginition switch (wire plug), and starter solenoid (relay?) on the drivers side fender. What else could be causing this problem?
I have been searching the forums and can not find any suggestions what to do if the problem persists after replacing the above items.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Steve

maybe you need a shim in there. local auto parts carries them for like 5 bucks. could be binding up against teh ring gear on the flywheel and keeping it engaged. if you replaced the ignition switch, selenoid, and starter what else other than the shim COULD it be?

I recently had this problem and I know the fix if ti is the same problem as mine... What happened to mine was the starter relay would stick for a few seconds or until i tapped it a lil with a hammer to make it unstick... Solution Don't fully turn the key just turn it lil by little to start the car. Like let the motor only turn like once... After a awhile the inside contacts of the relay will get warn in by the quick key turns and it will stop sticking,, Hope this helps somebody, took me forever to figure it out...Dam Cheap relays.......I went down the whole system to starter, ign switch , everything...lol

So when you shim it, do you shim it out equally or does one side need to be more than the other. I shimed both sides about 1/16 and it did not improve the problem.
Thanks.
