Fuel Pump

Fuel Pump
When i first begin driving my car on a cold engine, when i try to give it some gas the engine seems to studder. Sometimes its just a quick hesitation, but usually the engine sounds like it just stops. When iimmediately take my foot off the gas it starts running fine again. This only happens on a cold engine....
I just got the car a week ago, and the previous owner thought the fuelpump may be going bad because the fuel gauge which usually runs at a consistant 8-9 was now running at 3-5. I never actually got to see this myself, because he went ahead and got a new fuel filter and bypassed the fuel pressure gauge....
As of now im thinking that my engine is not getting enough fuel, so i went ahead and picked up a BBK 190 fuel pump. I figure i will install this new pump, and then hook up the fuel gauge and see if this fixes my problem.
Any ideas on whether a fuel pump will fix the problem?? Or how this could be fixed......
Thanks in advance
