Well there are two problems with that. I'd love to help you all out by doing it, but with my Procgarger, the whistle is so loud that it would be more difficult to hear the pinging. You'd still hear it, but I wouldn't want to confuse anyone.

Second, I have methanol injection, so i can advance it to 20 degrees and still not get detonation

my timing was at 18* and it felt sluggish so i bumped it up to 22*

i was running 87 octane for a long time time too. i use 93 now just to be safe.

i went to 24* and it put it to the floor. it made an awful sound, not like marbles in a can but sounded like it was revving too fast and it was misfiring so i retarded it.

every engine is different.

to run 22 degrees of timing on a 5.0 you need a whole lot more than you got

i think your timing light was on the wrong plug wire

Yeah... 22 degrees BTDC seems a bit extreme. Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the balancer or perhaps you didn't have the light on the #1 plug? Did you check it was the spout disconnected? Was the distributor one tooth off in th past and someone had to turn the distributor to compensate for it?

I guess it's technically posible... but I can't see how you could advance it 12 derees beyond the base 10 degrees... and all on 87 octane.

I'm at 15 deg. Advanced it at the track and it went faster every run. It's a stock engine with some minor external mods.
From 14.0@100 to 13.6@102.

Use 87 octane and I've since switched back from a 160 to a 190 thermostat.
On a really hot day, full throttle in too high of a gear. I can hear slight detonation if I'm driving besidea wall, uphill.
This tells me I'm on the ragged edge.
I may back it off 1 deg.

balancer could be off, was replaced by a friend when i first got the car and the grommet fell off the old one.

i was surprised myself. i forgot the spout connector the first time we did it so i unplugged it the next day and retarded it slightly by hand. its probably at 20 right now.

i retarded it to 14* when i first got the light and the car ran like a dog.

i turned my timing up to 14 and im going a 13.5 stock motor cold air intake and cats are off thats before i tore the engine apart
