gear shifter problems..
my gear shifter seems to be stiff...
i mean it takes force to throw it into gear, but when i lets say play with it without going anywhere it gets so nice and smooth i want it to run like that, also sometimes i have problems throwing it into reverse....
is there anything i can do and do you think if i oil it down would it be better?

RE: gear shifter problems..
Short shifters will amplify this problem and it truely depends on what you are used to.
I have a NV3500 transmission in my 87 Ram. It hasa 2' shifter that you can engage any gear with the tip of your fingers.
The T5 ina Mustang is relatively notchy and requires more effort.
During regular driving. Try spending more time with the clutch pedal down. About 1 - 1.5 seconds. It will give the disc/input shaft a little time to slow down and the synchronizer will have less of a job to do.
As for T5 not having synchronized reverse. Mine does. I have a 93. I imagine yours does too.
Confirm your clutch is disengaging with the pedal down. If you engage right off the carpet. It may be worn. Around half way up and it's probably ok.

A short shifter or a shorter shifter will not help your problem. Leverage comes from a longer shifter. A shorter shifter will only make it stiffer than it is now.

ive never seen a t-5 with a synchronized reverse and for t-5's to go into reverse smoothly without grinding u gotta put it in a forward geari usually go 5th then to reverse and it goes in no problem

Some 92's have them too.
Technically it's called a brake. I don't have to hit a forward gear to engage reverse. I can even hit reverse with the car rolling a bit.
I have an NV3500 5 spd transmission in my 1987 Dodge Ram. It truely has a synchronized reverse. I can engage reverse rolling backwards at any speed. Forward, as long as it's rolling slowly, reverse no problem.
Reverse, disengage reverse, go to neutral while rolling, and re engage reverse.
