Stock for stock.......yeah, the T-5 performs a lil better. Rebuild your AOD with a shift kit, 3000 stall, and a tranny cooler, and you'll be blowin the doors off of a T-5. And as said before, if you plan on some heavy mods, the T-5 wont hold up, but a built AOD will.....

ok check it out.....i had 2 aod cars and i went through 3 trannies

i have owned 3 t5 cars and i can tell you that mod for mod, the t5 car will run about a full second faster than a aod car all day long (as long as you can drive it)

if you keep the aod, go 3000 stall ,no lower or you'll regret it, also 4.10 gears

your car w/ 4.10's and a t5 would run i'm guessing 12.90-13.10 @ about 100

c4 wil get you the t5 performance and stronger too, but no OD so might wanna stay 3.73 on gears if you go that route

my slowest t5 car beat my fastest aod car by over 1 full second, but both my 5-speed cars were 4.10 and both aod cars were 3.73

fastest aod time was 14.40 stock motor, gt40 intake, 3.73,shorties,dynomax catback, sportsman pro's (1990 GT)
fastest t5 was 13.28 stock motor, 4.10s, cai, long tubes, flowmaster catback, et streets (1989 notch)

HUGE gearing defecit in the aod's, 1st gear = 2.40 and t5 first is 3.35
the aod was designed for the lincoln town car i believe, to shift smooth and slow so grannies dentures don't chatter, not too good for an aod car

the aod weak links are the od band and inability to flush the converter, when you snoke an aod you need a new one, they are the bigest cost at about $500

aod rebuild will set you back about $2000 for not much more than stock

if you keep the aod....go lentech strip terminator

if you don't plan on going quicker than 11's do the t5 swap, and don't launch at 5500 on full slicks...keep it around 3500-4000 on cheaters and you won't break it

how will the C4 give him T5 performance? the C4s 1st gear is 2.46 vs. the AODs 2.40 vs. the T5s 3.35. A STOCK C4 is stronger than a STOCK AOD. I'd keep the AOD, you'll be happier in the end. Besides, any transmission will hold just about any amount of power if built correctly. In short, if your going to rebuild a tranny for a street car, build an AOD.

May I ask what the advantages are of having a higher stall? I mean between getting a 2500 stall and a 3000 stall?

I think i'm going to go with the Lentech Street Terminator Valve Body and an Edge 3000+ Stall.... Let me know what you guys think and if there is any recommmendations on a tranny cooler and if I really should get one.

Thanks guys!

Two good choices.

As far as the tranny cooler... just hit up summit or some place and get one with a fan. As far as I'm concerned, they're all mostly the same.

So I decided i'm going to go with Lentech's Street Terminator Valve Body as stated above. I also agreed on the Edge 3000+ stall... Can somebody give me the advantage of staying with a 3000+ or like another said to go 3500-4000 stall. I'm not sure why to go that much hire, so if somebody could help me out there.

How long do you guys estimate the install on this? I start school August 20th and will have full access to lifts and everything I will need to do the work. If anybody has some install information on these two things that would be great!

I'm looking at it least $2000 for my stall, valve body, cooler, 4.10's, drag radials, and lca's/uca's.

Let the people at Edge decide on the stall speed. With them I believe you fill out a sheet listing your mods and they make a custom stall for your exact combo.

Bringing this back... I ran a 14.66 @ 95mph with a 2.187 60ft...

I want to make sure i'm making the right decision here... I'm going to go with the lentech manual valve body... 4.10 gears... edge 3000+ stall... and a tranny cooler...

Should this strip over a second off my 1/4 time? I'm going to go to the track again on Wednesday and I think the car may have more in it...

Anybody want to set me up with some install instructions and let me know how hard the manual valve body will be to install and how about the torque converter as well? If anybody has some detailed instructions on install that would be great, but how is the install? I did my H/C/I so i'm thinking I can handle the tranny...
