Water Pump/Cracked/Chipped Block

RE: Water Pump/Cracked/Chipped Block
I sold a motor to guy once and when he took it to the machine shop the block was broken in the exact same place. The machine shop wouldn't fix that because the said cast iron is to brittle to weld thin areas and would make that part prone to cracking. My guess is your gonna need a motor unless you find a machine shop that will fix that.

... have u started the car up since u have found this out? Perhaps the pump will be tight enough without this bolt and maybe you are worrying for no reason. Try it out and see if it leaks, if it does then u have to find a solution...

it is possible to weld cast iron but there is no way they could do it while the motor is in the car. not even sure if they could fix something like that. when cast iron is to be welded on they slowly heat the part in an oven ,then weld it, thencover it up in a sand pit so the part cools over a longer period of time. just find a used block somewhere and transfer your parts over.

Isn't that one of the bolts that also lets youattachthe support bracket to the front with a nut. It looks like if you can get a washer and nut on from the back which would tighten enough to seal the gasket on the water pump and still let you attach the support bracket at the front. I dont think it has to screw into the block to work.

i agree with either mattdel suggestion or drill the hole bigger, slip a bolt sleeve in there, weld in place and thread a new bolt in there.
you can use a filler rod to weld cast iron.....becareful though if you do. look like a tough spot to weld.

Thanks everyone for there replys. My boss is going to talk to our machine shop and see what they say. But yes a washer and a nut may work, however I may have to grind more of the block away to slip the nut and washer on. Again thanks and I'll keep everyone up to date.
