CAI Not Starting
First off, I'm new here, hello. I don't own a Mustang, but my best friend and brother do. But I am definately considering buying one. A 5.0, that is. My brother has an '84 Mustang Predator, and my friend has a '90 Mustang LX.
Anyway, to the point. My friend has a '90 5.0 H.O. LX. We have a ram air intake for it, and every time we try to install it. The engine will not stay running, if it even starts. When we did get it running, he could floor it and 0-20 would take about 10 seconds, no joke. And there would be LOUD backfires. Any idea what would be causing this? It's an AOD with shift kit, shorty headers and a Flowmaster exhaust, 8.8mm wires, MSD coil and ignition, NO MAF sensor upgrade (could this be the reason?), 2.73 rear end. I'm thinking that's all that's done to it.

Either you forgot to plug something back in (maf, iac sensor) or you may of hit somthing loose like a spark plug wire, or some other wire around that area. Take your time and look everything over, if it still does that, try putting the wire filter back on the back side of the MAF, so cai set ups require that filter to be there, don't ask me why but they do.

Mk. When we put the stock intake back on it, it fires right up, and runs like normal. The MAF sensor IS plugged in. The firing order is correct. He has the Ford shop manual for it. The timing is advanced a few degrees. I'm not sure what brand it is, as I did not purchase it. And there is no wire filter.
His current intake setup is not exactly stock. The stock intake is one rubber hose, MAF sensor, then the intake box, or something like that. His is the stock rubber hose, MAF sensor, and another rubber hose like the one the goes into the manifold, but this one curves and goes into the fender and has a K&N filter on it. The SRI that he bought sounds like it's getting a WHOLE lot more air than the one he has on there right now. My thought was maybe the MAF sensor is freaking out because it's getting so much more air. I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to me. I have a '98 Honda Accord V6, myself, I have no MAF sensor, and when we installed my SRI, we had absolutely no problems.
