Just getting started...

Just getting started...
I've got a 91 LX 5.0. It is bone stock except for a BBK CAI. Would other upgrades should I look at to get 400+ hp out of it. Also with the motor pushing that kind of power is there any drivetrain upgrades that should be considered. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm pretty new to this engine buildup thing.

engine:
head cam intake swap and 100 shot of nitrous and your there. this is the easiest way to get there most likely.
trans:
T-5's are junk so you might need to upgrade depeneding if it holds up or not. auto....not to sure on that, dont like em.
suspension:
the ideas are endless but you need this, i suggest starting here.....these stangs have more potention energy than most people believe.
upper and lower control arms are a must, sticky tires ( mickey thompson e/t street), sub frame connectors.
those are the basics. what kind of driving do you plan on? all race car, road race, auto X. let us know and we can give you a better idea on mods.

you'll have to for sure do a H/C/I on a 302 but if you stroke a 302 to 347 and build it right you'd be close and if you want consisted hp then the best way is add a supercharger. with 400 hp and if you plan to draG race it better upgrade the t-5 to a tremec tko if its a 5-speed if it'a an auto I'd do the same thing and upgrade it... there are plenty of aftermarket companies who do that.

RE: Just getting started...
Any recommendations for who to get the H/C/I from?
It is an AOD and I plan on keeping it that way. in terms of wht type of driving I'll be doing....I'd say more of a road race. Still street drivable though.
what are your thoughts of stroking it to a 347?

if its an aod, please do this before anything else:
- shift kit (transgo or bauman) $80-100 easy install
- tranny cooler (B&M) $40-100
- 2800-3500rpm stall converter (egde or tci) $ varies
- aod owners must visit clickclickracing.com its dedicated for auto stangs. these are my 2 forums of choice.

shift kits will make your automatic perform better and last longer. an example is changing shift point (1st to 2nd was 2500rpm and now is 4700rpm) keeping u in power band longer and things of that nature. see the 2 links below and read, enjoy!.
