Default 7.5 to 8.8 rearend

how hard would it be to switch a 7.5 rear out of a 83 lx t-top to a 8.8 rear from a 91 lx. what all would need to be changed? would it almost be a direct bolt up or what? or would the 7.5 be alright rebuilt and hold up fine? could i take everything from the 91 and it be a direct bolt up on the 83? sorry for the stupid questions but i don't know and i figured you guys might. thanks,

It should bolt right in you may not have the quad shock set up on yours but you can take the brackets off the donor car I converted my 85 to 8.8 and it's a simple bolt in. iF you got a 8.8 use it over the 7.5 on the other hand I used the guts out of a 85 gt and put them in a 4 cyl conversion project of mine and used the 4 cly 3.45 ring and pinion and housing and used the traction loc unit out of a 85gt and the car runs mid 13's with this set up and hasn't broken yet but the 8.8 is a much stronger unit so if you plan to add lots of power go with it!!

The only prob you might have is the brake distribution block. Some years have the vent for the rear on the drivers side, some the passenger side. The block mounts under that. You can get it to work, no prob, just something you might have to plan for. If you un-bolt the brakes, you can hang them with some coat hangers instead of un-hooking the lines. Saves having to bleed the brakes.

Oh, if you dont put the quad setup on, get some Lower control arms. Or you'll get some bad wheel hop... ... I know..
