speedometer help
My speedometer is off by half lol. When it shows I'm going 120 I'm really going 60. I have tried fixing it I have a yellow 7 tooth drive gear. I got a pink 6 tooth from Cj pony parts but its to big for the tranny. right now I have a 4.10 should I replace it or just saw f*** it and drive it they way it is?

RE: speedometer help
Need more info. Please post the following:
What tires are you running? size and brand
What transmission?T-5? What year?
What gear ratio? 4.10s right?
What speedometer? Is it the original or out of some other year? I am assuming it's a 140 MPH speedo

RE: speedometer help
You need to get the exact tire size that you are running. need to figure out the tire height. That will determine the revs per mile. The tool I linked in needs that info.http://www.mindspring.com/~steveflyer/speedo_gear_select.htm
You will also need to know the nunber of teeth on the speedo drive. Again, look at the link I sent for guidance.(looks like your tranny has an 8T drive gear)
It looks like the only possible combination for 4.10 gears is a 6 tooth drive gear (gear in tranny onoutput shaft)with a 20 tooth driven gear (gear on VSS (speedo cable)). That isof course with a standard tire height of 24.75 -25.25". If your tire is a bit taller, then maybe a 6T, 19T would be close.
With all that said, Based on the year you specified, if your tranny has an 8T drive gear, it will need to be replaced with a 6T. Major PITA. You will have to remove the back half of the tranny to do so. Sorry man, probably not what you wanted to hear.

Rick
