Default 94-95 5.0 better than 96-98?

Hi. I am planning on getting a 94-98 Cobra or GT. Would I be better off getting a 94-95 since it has the 5.0 in it? I want to eventually get to around 400 rwhp. Also, in what ways would I be limiting myself if I went with a GT instead of a Cobra? Is it just the heads? Or is there more to it than that?

I don't know too much about the 96-98's, other than the GT is a 2v OHC and the Cobra is a 4v OHC. The GT's are slower than the 94-95 5.0's, but the 96-98 Cobras are slightly faster out of the box than the 94/95 Cobras.

But, 94/95 wise, all the Cobra has over the GT performance wiseis cast iron GT40 heads, cast aluminum Cobra intake manifold, Crane 1.7 rocker arms, 24lb fuel injectors, Cobra specific ECU (compensates for the 24lb injectors) andCobra specific camshaft (very torquey). I believe the 94/95 GT and Cobra both have a 60mm throttle body and a 70mm MAF. That's the difference power wise, stock vs. stock, for a 94/95 Cobra & GT.

Thanks JET! So do any of you know ifit would be cost effective to buy a 94-95 GT and upgrade the following: Heads, Intake Manifold, rocker arms, injectors, ecu, and camshaft? Or would it be a better idea to just go ahead and find a 94-95 Cobra?

If you're looking for 400 rwhp, then just get the GT. Because if you get the cobra you're probably going to end up upgrading the heads, cam, intake, and injectors anyway. Might as well buy the cheaper version.

Do you plan on using any form of forced induction?

It is much more costly to get a 96-98 GT up to 400 hp than it is an old 5.0 simply because the 96-98s have crappy flowing heads, and are fairly hard to get power out of without doing some serrious modifications, the 96-98 Cobras are a totally different animal.

There are a ton of ways to get a 5.0 up to 400 hp, so 5.0 FTW.

Yes. I planon adding a blower later on.Will I need tofactor that in when replacing heads, cam, intake, etc.?

Definitely notgoing tofakebeing a cobra by putting abadge/bumper on it...but I was thinking about some dragon stickers on the sides...I've heard that'll addlike 15hp to a Civic. haha

Anyway, it looks like the 94-95 GT is the way to go. I should be able to pick one of those up pretty cheap if I can find one around the Houston / South Texas area. Should the mileage on the carbe a big factor (like 200k)? or will I be replacing so many parts duringthis project that it won't matter much? I plan on a complete suspension upgrade btw...

you will more than likely overhaul the entire car, so I dont see that it would matter
