Default HEI distributor

ok so i recently bought a 5.0 that was efi. I changed everything over to carb and bought an hei distributor,but i have a question. How do i know how to set the timing,because there are no reference points and im not sure where the #1 plug wire goes either. anyone who has any clue how to do this please help!!

Plug #1 should be straight back pointing to the intake.

When you stab it, have the balancer timing mark pointing at 10 BTDC
with cylinder #1 on its compression stroke and rotor pointing to #1 point

This will set timing 10 BTDC or close to it and give you somewhere to start.
