Default What makes more power?

Hey guys, long time viewer---first post.....

Question is, I'm torn between the trickflow top end kit and peicing together gt-40 heads with a tubular gt-40 intake, neccesary swap headers and 1.7 rr.

HP per dollar im not sure which will prevail. any advice or personal knowledge would be appreciated!

you can get more power if you mix and match top end parts. if i had to go with your options id go with the trickflow top end kit.

I dont see how the trickflow top end kit wouldnt make more power than the GT40 setup, but weirder stuff has happened. I'd go with some AFR, Canfield, or RHS heads and buy a cam and intake to go with them.

Yes, the TF kit will make more HP, but look at how much it costs. I think he was trying to find out which setup gives you the most HP per dollar spent. Just as an example, I got a 1996 Explorer engine for $350. That gave me heads and an intake. A Steeda camshaft was another $200. That's only $550 for the H/C/I, which is almost $2,000 less than the Trock Flow kit (which is around $2,500.)

Get a nice port job and upgrade the rocker arms, springe, lifters, etc and You'll end up with at least as much HP as the Trick Flow kit for about $1,000 or more less.

samseed, you hit the nail on the head. thats kinda how i was thinking. i really like the tf kit but, it just seems like if i put together the right parts, i can come up with equal to- or more hp than the tf kit for less money. im not saying the tf kit is a bad deal, i think its great, and of course hp=$, but ---there is always alternate ways to the same path. and thats what im tryin to figure out.
