Default Hatch Latch

I've been having problems with the latch on my hatch for a while now. I adjusted the latch post, lubed the latch, and bent the latch on the hatch back to it's original position (it got bent out of place and the bolts were hitting against the body, not letting the hatch close at all), and it'll latch fine, and stay latched regardless how hard you tug on it. As soon as I take a semi-sharp turn, or hit even the smallest bump, it pops open, and it's annoying the hell out of me (especially at night when it looks like I've got a strobe light in my car....). Would it hurt anything to soak it in an acid solution, similar to what's used to clean bolts and stuff? Are their any plastic/rubber parts that'll get eaten away?

Also, anybody know if Mustang hatch latches are identical to Capri hatch latches on the bubble hatches? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that they were different, but my memory could be failing me (and hopefully it is).

Soak it in acid, scour all the junkyards for a Capri latch, or just get a Mustang latch?

Thanks

I'm looking at a Mustang latch on eBay right now, and it looks almost identical, except the power release portion of it. Could I get a power-release hatch and just cut away the power-release components and fit it up?

I've played around trying to shut it a few different ways, all to no avail. I think my right hinge pin may be bent, there's almost no gap between the hatch and the body on that side, and they're maybe 1/16"-1/8" gap on the left side, could this be the problem? Or just a ****ty latch?

Thanks for the reply!

Wrap some duct tape around post. This is a simple common fix for a common problem.

I've wrapped it with electrical tape already with no luck!

No, the plastic has been gone for some time. I thought it had the plastic on it, but when I checked it out it was just tape!

Just ordered a new striker from 50resto, THANKS!!
