Default 89 t5 - 95 t5?

I traded a street bike i had for a 89 LX Vert that had the second gear shift fork bent, well i bought a T5 out of a 95 5.0 and was told it was the same, im new to fords but it looked easy enough, well i got the old tranny out and put them side by side and my tranny has one extra plug that screws into the top, i believe this is the reverse light switch? well the 95 tranny doesnt have this, it just has the 2 prong one on the side, will it work without the reverse light switch? my second question is that the shafts appear to be a little different in length, is this possible? or does it just appear to be this way because of the different cover around the base of the shaft?and im having trouble getting it to butt up to the bell housing, its about 1/4 inch from butting up and wont seem to budge. I DID NOT push the clutch in after i unbolted theold tranny from the housing, its still lined up, i used an alignment tool to double check.Any info will be greatly appreciated.

the input shaft and top cover will have to be swapped from your stock tranny to the 95 tranny if you want it to work.

The input shaft on the 94-95 transmissions were 11/16" longer.
the pre 94 T5 transmissions have a neutral safety switch on the top cover of the tranny. you will need to switch the covers if you want the 95 trans to work in your fox
