this may be a stupid question~
I am considering doing a gt-40 head and intake swap.
question is: why is this such a popular performance upgrade since the explorergt-40 302makes roughly the same power as the mustang 302. am i missing something here? didford upgrade the top end of the gt-40, and detune it in other ways?even the cobra motor rated at 240(?) hp is not a very big jump over a stocker, so why do these heads make around 30 rwhp on a stock stang?

this is kind of mind boggling, im mean, something just doesnt correspond here? if i bolt on gt40 heads and intake and even 1.7 rr on my 94 gt, its gonna net me 225 rwhp, yet the tf kit will get me close to 300 rwhp? hp per dollar , something just isnt right. THERE HAS GOT TO BE something going on here. consumer guide rates the late model 5.0 explorer at the same power as the mustang. WHY DO GT40 PARTSMAKE MORE POWER ON MUSTANGS?????

RE: this may be a stupid question~
like mentioned above, GT40 heads are usually ported up the @$$ then put on a mustang. They're great bang for the buck because you can get them so cheap. And a port job on them make the heads flow way better for very cheap. You can also by the TF kit for good power... but if you want it to work even better.. then you'll still have to port them... so spend your money wherever you want..

RE: this may be a stupid question~
when i had the orignal 5.0HO in i had the heads ported and got a 3 way valve job and then when i replaced the motor with the ffrp 5.0 with gt40 and same intake the gt40s made a extra 20 hp on the dyno

RE: this may be a stupid question~
thats what i was wondering. i havent checked specs, but i was kinda hoping the explorer cam is set for low end grunt. but does any one know if thats the reason? both motors make the same torque and power--- yet parts from one are considered "performance parts" on another?! more info from someone who knows the details would be appreciated! thanks!
