so i go to put my oil pan back on last night after replacing the oil pump. the oil pump is hitting the bottom of the pan and has about a 1/2 inch more to go so it bolts to the block. Unfortunatly my old oil pump has been chucked.

Anyone hear about this problem or expierence it? Is there more than one pump? This one i got was a melling from autozone. Thanks!

was it a high volume one???? if so you may have to clearence the pump for it to work with the pan. if it's a high volumne one it'll say on the pump tag indicated by mv68hv

Did you not bother to compare old/new oil pumps!? Sounds like you got a high volume pump instead of a stock volume one.

The other thing that is possible (but not likely) is that there may have been a phenolic spacer on the OEM one that is not required aftermarket. Take a look at where the pump mounts. Is there a spacer there? If there is, remove it and attach the new pump directly to the motor.

I installed a Melling High Volume pump and the only difference was one of the bolts on the bottom of the pump had to be switched to the old style to clear the pan.
