Default airbag question

ok...... i have to get my airbag working correctly so it will pass state inspection. i am getting a code 51(which i already know what it is) Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Open Due to Intermittent Short To Ground

here is my question. a friend of mine helped me take my steering column out last year when i converted to a t-5 from an AOD. i had already disconnected the battery and he decided to pull the fuse out for the airbag circuit under the dash (fuse #7 i believe) without telling me. guess he was affraid of the airbag coming out in his face. i dunno. anyway a month later i started getting the code 51. i hadnt had a chance to mess with it until the other day. this is when i noticed the fuse missing and i called him and he verified pulling the fuse. is it possible that this caused the diagnostic monitor to think there was a short to ground? i did find this statement online.

"PINPOINT TEST C1: FAULT INDICATION--AIR BAG INDICATOR FLASHES FAULT CODE
51--PROBABLE FAULT--LOSS OF BATTERY POWER TO AIR BAG FIRING CIRCUIT"

thanks in advance for your help

i already put the fuse back. (still has fault) you cant just clear the code, you have to replace the diagnostic monitor becausethe internal thermal fuse is open. i just dont wanna buy a new one and have it blow too. i hear these things are around $200.

after you replaced the fuse did you un hook the battery and tap the brakes (to drain the residual power from the computer) to clear the computer and then drive it to give the computer time to reset

All you would have to check is CKT 611 (pin 15) for a short to ground possibility before you replace the diagnostic monitor.
