Default TRANNY EXPERTS

i went to work and everything seemed fine. when i was comming home i noticed that the shifter had a ton of slop even when it was in gear. it was like something just broke or gave way. i can move it like its disconnected or something. it really seems just like my toyota celica that has more than 250,000 miles on stock tranny, just loose. any ideas??

take your shifter off, and see if the little plastic cup is broken that goes on the shifter ball underneath.

if its your mustang, the bushing that holds the shifter cable to the tranny may be bad

If its the toyota, the cable may have stretched and strands boken/rusted from the cable.

shifter cable? hm... mt trans doesnt have that... matter of fact the shifter bolts right onto the trans.... we are talking 5 speed right?

all i can think of off the top of my head is the plastic cup in the shift block, or possibly the pin holding the block to the shift rod...then again it could be the plastic on the end of the shift forks, but i doubt that...
