Fubar'd steering.

Fubar'd steering.
Yes, I did a search, but need a concensous. While driving over 40 or so, as I attempt turning thru a curve, it will wickedly pull to that side. It will do this turning both ways. It is WAY too dangerousfor me. What should I look at for the primary cause? Tie rods, steering rack, a combo of both? I am planning on new tires with an alignment, but seems too severe to be just an alignment. Your thoughts?

Hard to say, it could be loose tie rods, loose ball joints or someting with the rack. Best way to check is jack up your front end and shake it down, and then try a pry bar on your ball joints. if it is as bad as you say, whatever is fugged up should stick out like a sore thumb.

Seriously, if it is like this, I would suggest you NOT drive it until you figure out what is wrong. SOmething could be literally ready to go.
I just thought it could be a wheel bearing too. I'd say jack up the front end and have a look around and shake everything down, pry on everything and see what you can find.

When I bought my stang and brought it home. I had the same experience going around some curves driving it home. I've just rebuilt my suspension. The cause of my problem was the bushings in the upper part of the strut tower. Someone had changed the struts and took short cuts. They lost parts and either put washers in place of parts or ... Just didn't put the busshing in! But my car also has super-sensitive power steering. So I think my rack is worn out too. But I'd check the bushings real good if they've never been changed. Same as the lower control arm bushings.
