rear end identification
How can I tell the difference between a 7.5 and 8.8 rear end? Also how can I tell what weather its a traction lock or not and the gears inside without disassembly? I have two rear ends that came with the project 5.0 I'm putting together so I need to identify them. Thanks

RE: rear end identification
the housings should have tags attached to them which help identify them. Also, you can compare the housing covers. the 7.5 and 8.8 look different. The 7.5 will be long and not very tall, where the 8.8" is about the same width as the height

RE: rear end identification
What adder said was correct. Im looking in the summit book and according to thier reference guide the 8.8 should have two bolt holes in the top and two in the bottom before it curves down where the 7.5 has one in the center and and 1 in each corner. As far as the other question goes, i wouldnt know unless i pulled the back cover off or either it is in a car that has traction control.
