Default 1993 gt a/c r 12 or 134 a

hi any one know if a 1993 gt uses r 12 or 134 a for the a/c and when was it switched from what to what ????

a 93 came from the factory with r12. i had mine converted to 134 for about $40. not sure on the year they switched.

Should use r12, they swapped over to r134 in 1996.... You can get Freeze 12 instead of r12 which is alot cheaper and works just as good. I think you still need to vacuum the system out before using the freeze 12

Can you buy that over the counter. My daughters car needs to charged and it has not been converted.

You can buy it at auto stores, but I only know of one local store in my are that sells it, here is just one ebay store that sells it, several stores on ebay do sell it..

R12 was phased out in 1992.... not 1996
an R134a conversion is only like $15

R134a is cheaper....


why waste your money

I have had so many issues with the conversion kit on my low side schrader valve, I have tried 4 fittings and they all leak, either the schrader valve is loose on the original connection or my car just is not happy with the conversion, the original schrader valve only leaks when the r134 connection is on it. Freeze 12 will work better for me, and it should not leak, I have to replace all my orings and get it vacuumed out before I can use it though.

just a small amount of teflon tape will fix that leak

The actual valve gets stuck in the down position. I tried the teflon tape and that did not do it.
