Gas Tank release

Is there one on an '89? Or do you just sort of pull it open? I ask because my '89(or '86, not actually sure which year) just recently actually got out of the shop and into my possession. So I went to fill it up, but could not figure out how to open the flap covering the gas tank, neither could two gas station attendants.
