Default RE: Saleen Question

Before you buy this car you need to verify that it is legit, because a 90 LX with a body kit is not worth 9k! Even if it is a REAL Saleen, I think 9k is high for that many miles. Step into the Saleen/Roush Section with this question and think you will be met with a lot of valuable opinions and knowledge from many Saleen enthusiasts - not that the folks in here aren't knowledgeable and helpful themseleves [8D].

To verify if this car is legit, PM me with the bumper/serial number and the last 3 digits of the VIN number.

Also - if this car IS legit its not worth top Saleen value in this state (which COULD be 10K) The car has incorrect wheels, incorrect windshield banner, incorrect side graphics, and the chevrons (side slant stripes) are on the wrong sides...they should slant from top to bottom towards the rear of the car. So regardless if cloned or restored - they clearly didn't know what they were doing [&:]

Nevermind....I see the bumper number andVIN in the add. I'll look it up for you.

Other than the windshield decal being the wrong color for a red Saleen it looks to be the correct decal. The other thing that I saw was that the car had the momo steering wheel in it! Which is correct for the saleen up to 89, but that car should have an air bag in it. It looks like they left the factory console in it though! If you are looking for a saleen that has all the stock parts that one would not be it. But if you are going for looks I would say that price is a little high!! And the wheels have to go!!!! JMO

The car is indeed a legit Saleen, however based on all the things that are incorrect on itI think its fair to say it is not worth a Saleen value unless you get all the original parts with it.

Here is the NADA report. Low Retail is 9100. I would offer $8500 only if you can get the right wheels with it, otherwise I would lowball based on the known incorrect aspects of this car.

What is up with the drivers side of the hood. The hood body line is wrong.
It looks like it may have taken a hit on the drivers side nose
The hood is up a little on the drivers side and the body line is not straight. the line is wide at the nose.
I would be looking the inner fender for signs of a major repair.
Something about that car looks off.

Compare photo1 to photo 7 you can see what I mean.

Default RE: Saleen Question

True - but there are several reasons for that. This car in question is worth less than low Nada value. Cars that sell for high dollar are usually either showroom mint with VERY low miles (like less than 10 or even 5k) are limited editions, are 1 of 1 or 1 of XX made, or are a particular year. Examples:

1992 was a very low production year - I forget but I think it was less than 100. So they are very rare and bring good money.
1993 was the last year of the fox so they fetch higher than nada
1993 SA 10 (Saleen 10 Year Anniversary Car) only 10 built and only 7 or 8 know left in existence...these had a sticker of $56k back in 1993 and bring near 6 figures now.
1990-93 SC (stood for Super Cars, not super charged) which only had about a dozen built each year
1989 SSC (Saleen Super Car) were only about 161 built that year and featured a unique paint and interior scheme.
Any 1987+ Coupe - very few ever built.

The bottom line, Nada is a very good barometer but the price is based on condition, originality, mileage and of course whatever the buyer is willing to pay.

You guys have been really helpful. This women is selling a nice 93 LX with less than 50k miles for $2900. I'm thinking about buying that and turning into a clone. What do you guys think ? What would it cost me and what steps would you do it in ? my guess would be 1)Exterior (body kit and wing) and paint 2)wheels 3) seats ...in what order would you clone things..any suggestions on an order ? or an order for the interior stuff ? Any help is greatly appreciated (newbie and oldie..trying to get back in the game, but gone for a while)
