Default Saleen Question

I used to own a 1991 5.0 and loved it sold it about 10 years ago.

I'm looking at a 1990 Saleen right now. Guy is asking $8900 for it. Its really nice, but has 160,000 miles.

whats everyones thoughts on this ? I know its alot of miles, but how many miles when taken care of do Mustangs last.

Any help getting back into the game would be appreciated.

I love Saleens, so another thought of mine would be to buy a 1993 5.0 and buy a Saleen body kit and wing, and start from there..but I'm not sure.

Thanks for any advice.

First off dont listen to Adder...he hates all Foxes...

What kind of condition is the thing in?

160k is alot of miles for any motor/car..

I pulled my motorat 155k and it still ran fine with GT40 heads, Trick Flow cam supercharger etc...but the oil pressure was real low when hot.....

yes the car is rare but for that price it should have less mileage. get yourself an 87-93 lx and put the saleen body kit on it. make sure you don't buy a gt because the saleen body kit is made to attach to the factory lx bumpers. or try to find a saleen with less mileage. you should be able to find a good one witharound 80k for $8-10k.

If the motor still runs strong and the trans shifts nice it is worth that kind of money in my opinion; however that car is not that fast compared to the cars today....I would image a 2000 GT would walk away from you.

You could get that or you could do what I did...I bought my car for 6k and put over 14k into it and still am not done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be honest (and yes, I know most of you would want to punch me after I said this)..

But I really like the looks of the Saleen more then just the motor. I had a 5.0 GT and loved the power but with gas now a days and me driving 60 miles round trip to work everyday,
I'm looking for something thats going to get close to 20mpg on the freeway. So most mods I would do with it would be exterior and interior, not engine mods.

I'm thinking about buyin a 93 LX for $2000-3000 and putting a saleen kit on it, and painting it. After that work on the interior. (how much do you think it would cost me to buy a kit, have someone install it and paint it ?

The reason I like this guys Saleen is that it's already done.

The Saleen Body kits are only about $600 if you have an LX...

A good paint job is a couple of grand...a real good paint job is at least 5k...

it really depends on how well the car maintained .. the price isnt that bad maybe a tad high for the mileage , but look at saleens with 50 k and the price almost doubles .. if all you care about is how it looks its just a wing and body kit unless you really want an original saleen for yourself .. but if looks are all your going for find a nice low mileage lx to work with .. you could probably get a nice lx the body kit and new paint for less or about the $8900 your willing to spend on the saleen ..it really depends on what you want personally

I'm one who believes if your gonna buy a car you should drive it. Part of the value of the Saleen is that they are limited production and have become more of a collectors car. Unless you just don't care at all about the value, but 9K is a lot of money for a daily driver I would just buy a really nice 87 - 93 LX and make your own clone for a lot less.
