Default Mustang Smokes

Simple as that, my mustang is old and the seals within the engine are old as a result. Sometimes, especially when starting up from a stop, my mustang smokes like nuts. I've tried accelerating slowly, but no matter what the car hesitates a second or two before moving and in that time it blows smoke. Is there anyway to stop this short of replacing all the seals? Because that would cost around $3000 according to my step-dad.

you probably want to not start the car until you know what is wrong. if that was my car, i would have it towed/whatever to a reliable mechanic.

It's already been in an out of a shop t repair the broken water pump it had. They said the smoking is because of the old seals.

no, its because of old valve stem seals letting oil enter the combustion chamber

i would do a Head and intake swap, with some 1.7 rollers. stock pushrods will work fine

Changing Valve Seals In The Car
To use the rope, remove all the spark plugs. Start with the number 1 cylinder at TDC. Back up the crank with a 15/16" socket on the harmonic balancer nut so the piston is towards the bottom of it's stroke. Push about 18" of 3/8" cotton rope into the cylinder through the plug hole. Tie a knot in one end of the rope before starting. Leave the knotted end sticking out of the hole so you can retrieve the rope later. With the same socket, rotate the crank towards TDC until the rope is all compressed against the valves.

Now you can remove the rocker arms for that cylinder. You will need a lever type valve spring compressor for removal of the springs. The pivot point of the compressor goes onto the rocker stud. Put the nut on the stud, but not tight. Now force the lever up and the valve spring will be compressed. Remove the keepers and the retainer. Then remove the old seal, if it is still there. The new seals should come with a clear plastic sleeve that you can press over the end of the valve stem to make the seal easier to get past the keeper grooves. After the seal is installed, remove the sleeve and replace the retainers. Move on to the next valve, replacing the seal on it the same way. Then, lower the piston back down the bore and retrieve the rope.

Replacing valve seals does not cost $3000 on a BMW let alone an American V8
