Vibration at 1,000
My 95 GT has 91,000 miles on it, and I have never had any kind of engine problems...until now. Last week I was just checking everything out on it and I noticed the vibration damperwas starting to separate, but it wasn't wobbling really bad. So I ordered a new one. The engine was running smooth though. Well one morning I started it up and I noticed a vibration throughout the car, and I could even see it in the steering wheel a little. It's not unbearable, but its there. It's between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm's, when the car isn't moving, clutch engaged or disengaged. When I'm driving I feel it a little while accellerating, but more when I'm decellerating. I put the new damper on later that day, making sure the key and keyway were lined up, and the timing checked out fine whenI hooked the light up (12 degrees with the SPOUT disconnected). It says it's an SFI damper too. The vibration was still there though! So I checked my spark on all cylinders...good. I took a stethoscope to every injector and they are all clicking like they should. So I thought maybe something in the clutch was bad so I took off the tranny, clutch, and flywheel. I replaced a bad throwout bearing and the pilot bearing and put everything back together exactly how I took it off. I did notice that my flywheel didn't have the three dowel pins that line up with the pressure plate, I'm not sure if this is normal or not and if it would even affect anything. Everything back together, my clutch pedal feels a lot better, but the vibe is still there!! I did notice the driver's side of my motor was a little lower than the passenger side. The engine mount looks a little lop sided but it's not all ripped apart, and I had replaced it at 70,000 miles when it was bad. Could it be a collapsed lifter or a stuck valve? Maybe a bad crank? I usually figure stuff out but this one's got me...

Also, today, while driving home, I turned off the car while it was in gear and the vibration was still there. I guess that rules out injectors and spark? Would my flywheel and pressure plate randomly go out of balance or something?

RE: Vibration at 1,000
it shouldnt be a lifter or any valve train issue for that matter.... you would hear that....
most bottom end problems... you hear those aswell
to me it sounds like crank walk... but like above.. you'd hear it...
im gonna do some thinkin on this one.....

if it just started from one day to the next I WOULDN'T SAY IT'D BE A BOTTOM END ISSUE UNLESS YOU RAN IT HARD AND RIGHT AFTER THAT IT HAD THE PROBLEM.......Damn caps!!!!! was the vibration there before the damper replacement???? did you notice it right after the damper replacement???? if so I'd suspect a improperly/slightly out of balance damper....if that's the case put on a known good one or factory original replacement and restest

RE: Vibration at 1,000
well its NICE for you to give us the full story
It sounds like bad motor mounts are transferring uneeded drivetrain harmonics to the chassis.
Wouldnt hurt to replace your spark plugs while your at it and gap them to OEM .

Yeah, I did notice it before I put the damper on. Also I checked my motor mounts today and found out the driver's one has a crack (where it bolts into the block, right where the bolt hole is). The rubber is fine. I'm definately gonna replace that. The vibration is getting worse. BTW I checked the compression while the engine was hot and I got about 110 PSI all the way around. That's with the ign disconnected, the fuel pump fuse out, and I didn't hold down the throttle.
