Are underdrive pulleys worth it? I probably will go with some steel Steedas because they will last the difference in hp from aluminum to steel isnt that great. However, does the gain in hp from underdrive pulleys outweigh the drain on your battery?

i am about to get some underdrive pulleys and someone at my fathers work stated that i should no change out the pulley for the alternator due to the the lessened speed of charge might make you battery go dead easier. especially if you have an amp or woofer. just change out the other two. something to think about.

If you have the stock stereo system,no COOL NEONS or anything else that uses extra power, don't worry about it.

If you do, look into a capacitor or leave that pully alone.

The pullies are gonna give you 5 -8 hp or so at high rpm's, you should be fine as long as you arent stuck in bumper to bumper rush hour sitting still every day. You gotta be at driving rpms just to spinthe accessories like you were idleing

so as long as you keep the engine above idle most of the time, the alternator should keep the battrey charged. i do have a woofer though. maybe a higher amp alternator would help??

All said is true, but the regulator should just tell the alternator to charge it up faster thus more strenuous on the alternator, not so much the battery.

I burned up my alternator, which was constantly trying to charge my depleted battery because of the pulleys. Stay with the stock pulley on the alt. The stock fox body alternator was way weak, so I went to the powermaster 140amp one wire alt., and made sure the battery was fully charged when I installed it. No problems since.

ok,ok so unless you upgrade the alt., stay with the stock alternator pulley....also dont pay steeda prices, go with mac or asp??? and of course make sure you have a good battery. and one more thing, do the alum. pulleys really make a diff over the steel???

Hey 95, I went with march pulleys for my car and they are great. My car actually runs cooler now, and I live in AZ so if its good here, its good anywhere. Charging has not been an issue for my. I've noticed that my amp gauge will go a little lower when at idle, but it goes right back up when you hit the gas. Great buy, i'd recomend them 100%.
