Default Leaking Intake - How Much Power Loss?

I finally put my car in the shop. I was tired of the idle problems and could not find the source. I have a mechanic who I trust and he said he would take a look. He smoked the block and found four lower intake leaks. He is going to replace the lower intake gaskets and he said that was the only problem.

I was wondering how much of a power loss would that cause. I have not been happy with the power of the car since I made all the upgrades and I hope this was the reason.

That would create a major vacuum leak and would cause a loss of power, idle sugring, and hesitation when accelerating (maybe even stalling.)

Whats up sam....

He said that the intake was leaking bad enough that the computer realized there was all the extra air so it would dump extra fuel causing an idle surge... then the computer would see the idle rising so it would cut fuel causing the idle to drop quickly - hence the idle problems. He said that my fuel trim was all over the place. Not sure what that means, but he was going to get it fixed. I know that it would cause a power loss, I was just curious as to how much? Am I going to see/feel a difference when its fixed?

once all the intake leaks are fixed if you have ever played with timing make sure it's set right.....also if the mods you have listed are all you have..I wouldn't of expected earth shattering gains unless you have a set of heads and cam to go along with the 24 lbs injectors and intake

I have messed with the timing... I caught some crap on here about it. We set it at 14 degrees to start and had no problems. After a couple of weeks we started bumping it up and driving and bumping it up some more and so on. It's now set at 20 degree's. Would the intake leak be the reason the timing is set so high with no problems?

excessive timing + lean a/f mixture isn't the best combo!! detonation may result but either way timing wouldn't cause an intake leak.....20 degrees is too much for base timing.....with the spout removed optimum timing should be between 13-15 degrees max....this is typically where most 5.0's run the best...10 degrees is factory setting

I understand that timing would not cause an intake leak.. I am new at this but not a total retard . What I was asking is would the intake leak allow the timing to be set so high without any detonation? and How much of a power loss would a leaking intake cause?
