Default Power Loss

I have a 88 lx with 5.0, I took the smog pump out of the loop and added cold air kit, headers with complete exhaust, 160 thermostat. I lost my snap with the motor. My timing Ibelieve is at 13 or 14 deg advanced and I disconected the plug first when I set the timing. Any Ideas. I am new to the 5.0 stuff.

Thanks
David

You disconnected the first plug, wtf is that? And a 160 stat is way too cold for the motor. That itself will cause you problems

He said "plug first" not "first plug". With old age comes Dyslexia.

Could it be your emissions that are the problem?

The thermostat I can't verify for sure but the temp never gets hot. When it had the orginal exhaust manifold there were heat tubes that ran back to the engine. When we put the headers in we lost the tubes and so we disconected the smog pump stuff. You can see a difference in gas mileage and snap. I think it is almost like the car wants more fuel? And the plug I unhooked was to the distributor which had something to do with the advance and the chilton manual said to disconect before timing and then put back on when done.

If the car is running too cold, it's not going to go into closed loop. That's a problem right there. Are you getting black smoke out the t-pipe after it's warmed up. Have you pulled one of the plugs to see what it looks like?

Nothing changed in the performance of the car untill the headers were added and the smog pump disconected? I will pull a plug and see what it looks like. What temp stat should be in the car? Could the computer think its cold because there is no hot air coming from the headers back into the motor?

Thanks

180*, No the computor thinks it's cold cuz the engine temp is too low. Are you having any trouble w/ hot restarts?
