surface rust and ? about bearings
i have slight surface rust on this block i had sitting around. my question what would be the best thing to use to clean in off. my question about bearings is i have a new block and crank and was wondering what the chances are i can use standard size bearings without having to us ethat plasti gauge stuff

1) You can use naval jelly (it's pink) to remove the surface rust, or you can use a High Temp rust converter and just spray it on. It will convert the existing oxide to a flat finish. You can leave that flat finish there to protect the block from further rust.
2) Always use plastiguage to measure clearances/tolerances. Just because something is new doesn't mean you shouldn't measure it. Saving $10 on the front end can cause you hours and $100s in aggravation later on.
