Default New Problem

Hopped in my fox today and started it up. Both the "Check Engine" and the battery lights came on. It drove fine all the way back to work and as I pulled into the parking lot at work the car started sputtering and shut off. I tried to start it but nothing the battery is very dead. Since I don't live far from work I jumped it and tried to drive it home but every time I press the accelerator the car started sputtering like it wanted to shut off again. I sank the clutch pedal and it reved. I let up on the clutch and it started to lose power again.

Anyway, I got it home and charged the batter, put in back in the car, started it up, disconnected the terminal and the car shut off. I know this means the alternator is bad, but is that also the reason as to why the battery light came on and why when I press the accelerator it lost power and shut off?

ORIGINAL: aode06

replace your alternator only.
he has completely discharged the battery with a high current draw more than once. i'll guarantee he has a dead cell by now.

Ok ..... I changed the alternator this morning. Started up the car and the check engine light still came on, but the battery light is off. Only problem now is the car won't stay on. It'll start up, run for about 10 seconds then shut off. And NOW the car tries to start with out me turning the key!!!! I just went to start it up, but when I connected the battery the car started cranking over. What's up with it now??????
