Default Hatch Support shocks

I bought a new pair of hatch support shock for my GT and installed them and they worked great for about 2 days. The stupid things keep "popping" out of the supports on the car. Why? Are the shocks too short? Can I move the supports on the body of the car down further?

A lot will depend on which Manufacture of the shock?
Are they a generic shock (one fits all) or are they a specific for your application?

Yeah they'll pop of the ball. So I'll fix it. Then close the hood, a few mins later I'll hear {{{P O P}}} and go take a look, one side would've popped from the ball again and the other side would've come completely out the base that it's screwed into.

Probably crap. They were about $30 shipped.
