Default gear drive timing, anyone using them here?

hey guys,

is anyone using gear drive instead of the timing chain setup? Does it have any advantages or disadvantages over the timing chain?

Thanks, Nik

Gear drive advantages are that it doesn't have a chain to stretch(though a good timing chain won't really have that problem). They're noisy though

+1
They were O.E. in some Ford 6's
My next motor will use one as they last forever......
I don't know of any real power increase with them.
Lotsa circle track cars use them where the rules permit, so do NHRA Super Stock cars.......

they cause excessive bearing wear if you drive it daily.
if its your weekend cruiser, go ahead.

i am not looking for power out of them, but if they did give power i bet it would VERY minimal. I guess i will be using a noisey gear drive for my 351w.

Remember, gear drives were intended for racing use, not daily driving.........

If you do it, go with a single idler setup instead of the duals.
