RE: good estimate for rear seal replace?
A 5.0 with a one piece rear main: probably around $200 if he is your friend, maybe $150. He will have to drop the tranny. If he is your friend, buy him a case of beer and ask if he can be present to give you advise and you do it yourself, it is very basic.

RE: good estimate for rear seal replace?
My friend and I just did one of those last week in my driveway.. dont pay for it. The part is like $20 from Ford and it took about a half hour to pop out the driveshaft and pop in a new seal and bearing.
EDIT: Nevermind... I was talking about the rear main tranny seal. My bad. But you could do the engine one too, just takes a bit longer.

300-450?....damn I may quit my job again to do this stuff
ORIGINAL: skielk
I went to a few local shops when mine was bad and was told anywhere from 300-450. Its not as hard as you might think if you want to do it yourself.

Just remember, 300-450 to change a seal is easy money. Getting enough business to do the 2 or 3 like that a week to pay your rent/mortgage is quite a bit tougher.
