bro just make sure the car your looking at has been in an accident, or else either it had an engine or trans problem, if it was in an accident "front" most probably then it was running before it crashed, hence a higher probability the momo is good.

RE: junkyard 5.0
yeah you may as well not look for a specific engine because the h/c/i will be swapped anyhoo.
I picked up an engine out of an 89 GT with forged pistons for $200. H/C/I will eventually be upgraded and th ebottom end rebuilt.
Good luck!
I aggree that the crashed ones usually were RUNNING fine when they went in there. If you see one that looks great it probably had mechanical issues.

RE: junkyard 5.0
Thanks for all the good info!
I'll check into the alternate motors (vics, t-birds and others). I found a couple of Mountaineer motors in my area...one for $500, the other for $650. I'm not in a hurry at this point, but I'll probably slide by and take a look at em. They're probably picked over, but we'll see.
I've had my eye on craigs list, too. Nothing so far.

IMO, I wouldn't bother with the crownvic/grandmarquis engines. They are not the 5.0 HO, and I am pretty dang sure that they are non roller blocks. If you don't care, truck 5.0's are probably the easiest to find.

I would look for a Lincoln, Mercury or even a Crown Victoria.
Same basic motor and you probably want to go 'H/C/I/' anyway.
My thinking is that there isn't as much demand for those engines and you may get one a little cheaper.
Also, Peeps with Lincolns and the bigger cars are usually those peeps that take care of there cars a little better like changing oil etc so the wear may not be as great......

Good advice. I'd junk the CV heads though.
Is there anyone out there that thinks a Mustang SB is superior to a CVs? Not considering pistons and cam of course.
