hey. i got a buddy that has what he calls a 351 400M. he told me that it is a ford 351 cleavland that is bored to a 400.. now. is this a stock motor.. is it just bored to 400 or is it bored and stroked.. is it worth anything? what did it come stock in? I just want some info about it from anyone who knows anything about them.. Thanks a bunch.

the 400 "modified" as they are called are a totally different animal than the 351 windsor now they have many interchangable parts with the 351 cleveland. a lot of people use the 400 crank in a cleveland to make a 392 stroker, u can use the heads intakes etc. from what i understand the 400 blocks are not as strong and there is little to no aftermarket support for the 400M engines. i could ramble on for days but it would be easier for you to run a search on google and find all kinds of info.

From what i understand the 351m 400 is a 351c with 400 heads, the actual displacement is still 351, hence not just calling it a 400. My brother had one in a 79 f 150, and it was a dog

No it's not. The 351M is an engine and the 400 is an engine. There is no 351m 400. They are 2 seperate engines that are in the same family. Having that said, the 400 is 400 cid, and the 351M is 351 cid. Both share the same block, heads and intake, also share their heads with the 351C 2V, but the cleveland has a shorter deck and the intake doesn't interchange. The 351M and 400 also share the big ford 429/460 bellhousing pattern. The engine were pigs in stock form, but there weren't many engines from the late 70's that were not. give them a decent cam and intake, and they run well.

400M= 400 MIDLAND.
They were built at the Midland ,Michigan Ford plant.
Like someone said, there is little/no aftermarket support.
I drove a company work truck way back when that had one . It was a real POS......

HEY NOW! all the hate on the 400 damn! Haha they are a truck motor, plain and simple to say it best and were pigs in stock form since they effed with the timing and stuff to meet emissions. My 78 Bronco has a 400 and the thing is a beast! Granted I adjusted the timing and have a 4bbl intake on it, but its not a slouch as much as it should be for how big it is. They make great power at very low RPMs.
