Best clutch for slightly modded 5.0?
This is my first post and basically the reason I signed up for this forum. I'm a college student at the University of Northwestern Ohio and I'm majoring in High Performance Technology and my current class is Manual Transmissions. I own a '91 Mustang GT with only a cold air intake kit and a complete new exhaust system. Now that we've established that I'm in college *ahem (tight budget)* and that I have Manuals as my current class, I will be pulling the transmission out in about 4 weeks to do a rebuild on it and put in new 3.73 gears. At that time I'd also like to slip in a new clutch. I've looked around a bit and can't seem to settle in on one. It'd be great if I could get some responses with personal experience behind them. Oh, and the new clutch needs to be stout enough to be driven daily and on rare accurances... all the way from my school here in Ohio to back home in Georgia. Alright.. let the games begin!

Welcome to the site. Lots of good info to be found here! I just did a King Cobra clutch in mine with no problems. Astro Performance has about the best price I've found. While your in there, upgrade your cable and quadrant. The plastic ones get some slop in them and will eventually break. Steeda makes a great kit which has the cable, aluminum quadrant, and fire wall adjuster.

Not trying to insult you, but you know pulling the transmisison and adding 3.73's are two completely unrelated tasks right? besides the removal of the driveshaft. And there are tons of clutches, you probably won't even need a beefier clutch, I do recommend the clutch quadrant upgrade though.

Don't get a k.c, get a spec stage 2

I have also heard a lot about the CF Dual Friction clutch, they seem to have a good rap.

i had a king cobra and it sucked the pedal was twice as hard to push and wouldnt hold up to a stock motor with only a 150 shot i now have a fidanza 2-2-1 and love pedal is like butter and it holds just fine. i have personally heard many stories of the cf df clutches comming apart but ive never used one so.... i have heard very good things about the spec clutches i would recomend resurfacing the flywheel before you put a new clutch in. just my 2cents
