N/A or blower
I was just trying to get some opinions, I am about to start ordering parts for the rebuild of my 87 GT and still having a problem deciding what I want to do.

I can't decide between trying to go all motor, wich I am not sure what the cost range would be to reach a 500HP mark all motor on a 302 or if I should do a blower and then with the right pistons I can put a nitros kit on it for the few times I need a little something extra.

Just wanted to get some opinions thanks.

it would cost alot more to get 500hp na then with a supercharger.

I don't see geting 500hp out of a 302 NA as practical, I mean all things considering... 1.67 hp per cube NA is steep, I don't know if thats even possible to do while maintaining streetability

If you are rebuilding the motor, you might want to go ahead and do a 331 or 347 stroker kit. With a kick *** set of heads you would be atleast into the 400-450 hp range. A blower is mainly up to you. A friend of mine has a 302 with a nice set of heads and a holley blower, and he is seeing 430 horse at the wheels. As for nitrous, you'll see 500 easy, but remember that power isnt always there unless you keep your bottle filled.

hopefully I rarely run into anything that I need the juice for anyway, I will look into that I need to figure out what I am going to do quick so much to do so little time.

I figured N/A was a little out of reach with a 302 but I wasn't sure I know it is easily done with the 351 but I want to stick with the 302.

Its not that hard. All you basicly need is a 9.5:1 -10:1 Compression 331 or 347 ,forged pistons, a good set of heads that are ported really good, a big cam, ported intake, bigger injectors, etcand you would be really close or exceeding 500 hp

I agree with most everybody here, but I'd go the s/c or turbo route with a 302. Much more streetable than n/a, although you have to have a good tune. I've read numerous articles and seen some threads that suggest a very poor idle and drivability problems with just the cam necessary to develope 400hp on a carbed or efi 302. If you're on a budget and go n/a, do the 331 or 347 with the forged hi-comp pistons, and the rest that t5 suggests, and you'll be close.
