Speed density cars run slightly faster stock because the maf is a heavy restrictor. I seriously doubt someone would CONVERT it to speed density, and if you are missing it i doubt your car would run even halfway descent, if at all. Your maf sensor should be between your throttle body and air filter.

No you don't type too much that was good. Thanks for the bottom end suggestion, I think I will do just that, buy me a new block and build on it. And sorry toask so many questions, but should I even bother checking the top end you know the pushrods, lifters, valves, springs, rockers? or not, I mean I already have the upper manifold off and the covers off also. Well I will do the oil pump tonight. Run it tomorrow, let you know the results.

well, your pushrods should all be straight, none bent. As far as the rest of the valvtrain, its all self adjusting, so pretty much its broke or it isnt. If your oil pressure and oil level is good and you still hear top end noise, then you need to find out where its coming from before you start replacing $16 a piece lifters. I don't really know how to tell if those lifters are good without hearing them run, maybe vfast would know.

I am guessing a bad lifter. Take the lifters out and visually check them. Make sure you put them back in the same lifter bore though. If one is bad, then i would recommend looking at your cam too.

Well since the easiest wright now is the oil pump I'll try that and if it continues to make noise Ill check the lifters

looking at the lifter may indicate some wear but most likely when one is going bad it's in the plunger area inside the lifter...with this many miles..I would pull them one by one and do a visual check and look at the rollers on the lifter...clean before installing back in..get a new oil pump screen and rod ...then fill with a good 10-40 oil

Well then it looks like I will be doing both, replacing the oil pump and components, and lookig at the lifters.

Do I need to take the engine out to remove the oil pan, it seems that that is the onlyt way to remove it.
