Default freeze plugs

thinking of buying a 86 gt, engine runs but the guy says it needs freeze plugs, i have never replaced them before. whats the story with them, does the engine need to come out, is it cheap? any info would be great.

well they make special install tools to aid in the installation of freeze plugs while still in the car but they're such a pain in the ace to do that way.....I just yank the motor then you can kill hundreds of birds with one stone......like the coolant leaks and replace all freeze plugs at once and fix any and all oil leaks too at the same time

Find out which plug it is...But I agree with mjr, its so much easier with the motor out.

you guys overthink situations all the time.....

grab a rubber expansion plug from the auto parts store for less than 5 bucks, and replace the old metal plug with the rubber piece in less than 5 minutes. if you know you've already had one plug leak, grab an extra one and keep it in the glove box.

(insert rabble rabble here about how its half ***...... then watch me drive down the road with no leaks while your still attempting to figure out which bolts you need to take our first to yank the motor)
